Mapping Initiatives & Replication Opportunity
Poseidon Aquatic Resource Management Ltd, in collaboration with Blue-Green Advisors Ltd and QED-Research Consulting, as well as in partnership with the Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, is currently delivering a COAST technical assistance project titled “Unlocking Financing for Small and Medium-Scale Aquaculture: Mapping Initiatives and Replication Opportunities.”
This project aims to address one of the main barriers to the growth and diversification of marine aquaculture in Indonesia, namely the access to affordable and responsible credit and other financial services by small-holders and other SMEs across the aquaculture value chain.
Now halfway through the nine-month project supported by COAST Facility Indonesia, the team has met with all major government, donor and private sector institutions involved in financial service provision to marine aquaculture. We are currently undertaking field visits to Central and East Java, as well as Lombok, meeting with SMEs and rural financial service providers to better understand:
- Barriers to accessing finance for small-scale aquaculture businesses
- Constraints to financial service provision in this sector
We look forward to sharing further updates as the project progresses, including insights from stakeholder consultations in Java and Lombok, as well as outcomes from the upcoming workshop: “Aquaculture Financing Dialogue: Unlocking Sustainable Investment for Inclusive Blue Growth,” scheduled for May 2026.
